Online food delivery brand Foodora has partnered with Telia, Holo, SmartCity Bærum, Norconsult, OBOS, and Storebrand, to launch a pilot for the commercial operation of robot deliveries in the Norwegian municipality Fornebu.
The delivery robots will travel at walking and cycling pace and are equipped with advanced sensors that allow them to travel safely in their local environment.
In addition, they are continuously monitored by operators. These are not robots that are released on their own, but technology that is being tested under close supervision, the partnership stated.
Fornebu is reportedly the first place in Norway where self-driving robots are testing a new, safe and sustainable way to deliver food through orders on foodora.
The pilot project also has an important research and educational dimension through a collaboration with OsloMet through Norconsult.
The project will be part of a semester project in the Urban Mobility course, where students will follow the robot closely throughout the pilot and document their experiences.
CEO of Foodora Norway, Prashant Søegaard, said: “Food delivered to your door by a robot may sound like science fiction, but at Fornebu it is now part of everyday life.
“It’s incredibly exciting to test this as the first in Norway. This project shows what we can achieve when different stakeholders come together with a common goal.
“It’s not just about food delivery—it’s about exploring new solutions for the cities of the future.”
