Renishaw, a global leader in precision engineering and manufacturing, has announced the opening of a new multi-million-pound testing facility at its headquarters in Gloucestershire.
The investment forms part of the company’s ongoing commitment to ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality, and reliability across its product range.
The purpose-built facility significantly enhances Renishaw’s capabilities to test its products under the environmental and electrical conditions typically experienced during transportation and use.
It includes a range of state-of-the-art equipment, such as a large electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) chamber, electrical safety testing devices, and systems for environmental simulation and accelerated life testing.

Among the advanced testing tools are electrodynamic shakers, which are used to determine the resonant frequency of products and simulate years of usage within a matter of hours. These rigorous tests are designed to ensure product durability and performance over time.
As a global supplier of precision metrology and manufacturing systems, Renishaw places strong emphasis on delivering products that arrive in full working order, regardless of the challenges posed by global shipping and handling environments.
To support this, the facility is also equipped with systems designed to replicate a wide range of transport-related conditions.
These include temperature ovens, climatic chambers, and both positive and negative pressure vessels. The comprehensive testing process enables engineers to identify potential packaging issues and make necessary improvements prior to dispatch.
Luke Worthington, senior environmental test engineer at Renishaw, said: “We use the temperature ovens to try and replicate the worst-case scenario of an air freight journey. If the product package goes up to altitude in an unpressurised hold then we expect it to get extremely cold.
“If that plane lands in a very warm country, we could expect the package to sit on the tarmac for several hours in very hot and humid conditions.”
Achievements and innovations in retail and e-commerce, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, food and beverage, automotive, transport & logistics, and more will be celebrated at the Robotics & Automation Awards on 29 October 2025 at De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London.
