Warehouse orchestration technology firm GreyOrange has announced a partnership with Google Cloud to develop GreyMatter DeepNav, a new artificial intelligence-based solution aimed at improving the deployment and performance of autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) in large-scale warehouse operations.
The forthcoming system, which is being built on Google Cloud’s Vertex AI platform, is designed to reduce the complexity and time associated with AMR deployment.
GreyMatter DeepNav will use reinforcement learning to enable faster training and more efficient task execution across mixed fleets of robots, allowing operations to scale beyond the current industry standard of a few hundred units.
AMRs are widely used in warehousing and logistics to automate tasks such as receiving, picking, packing, and shipping.
However, existing systems typically rely on fixed, rule-based programming, which requires extensive manual effort to modify. GreyMatter DeepNav aims to address these limitations by introducing AI-driven path planning, real-time task allocation, and dynamic decision-making capabilities.
The platform is expected to support heterogeneous robot fleets and enable more flexible navigation in both structured and unstructured environments.
Key features will include SLA-sensitive task execution, scalable control of thousands of robotic agents, and the ability to dynamically interleave and link tasks based on real-time operational demands.
GreyOrange’s existing GreyMatter orchestration software currently supports high-volume robotic activity in complex warehouse environments.
The integration of reinforcement learning through Google Cloud is expected to significantly enhance these capabilities, reducing AMR onboarding times from months to weeks.
Innovative applications of technology in retail and e-commerce, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, food and beverage, automotive, transport & logistics, and more will be celebrated at the Robotics & Automation Awards on 29 October 2025 at De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London.
