Latin America (LatAm) e-commerce platform Mercado Libre has signed a commercial agreement with Agility Robotics to deploy the company’s humanoid robot, Digit, at its facility in San Antonio, Texas, USA.
Under the deal, the initial deployment will focus on tasks supporting commerce fulfilment. The companies said they will also assess other potential applications for AI-powered humanoid robots across Mercado Libre’s warehouse network in LatAm.
Mercado Libre’s senior vice president of shipping, Agustin Costa, said the company is continuing to evaluate emerging technologies that could strengthen operations and workplace experience.
“Our partnership with Agility Robotics and the deployment of Digit in our facilities is a significant step forward in our vision to create a safer, more efficient, and adaptable logistics network,” he said.
Agility Robotics said the collaboration will explore whether automation can help address roles that are difficult to recruit for, particularly repetitive and physically demanding tasks.
The partners will assess impacts including ergonomic safety, labour gaps and productivity, with the stated aim of enabling employees to shift towards higher value work.
Digit is designed to operate at human scale, moving through existing aisles and workflows without requiring major facility redesigns, according to Agility Robotics.
The company said Digit has already moved more than 100,000 totes in live commerce operations and can be integrated with robot fleet management via its Agility Arc cloud platform, coordinating with systems such as AMRs, conveyors and WMS.
Daniel Diez, chief business officer at Agility Robotics, said the company is looking to support Mercado Libre’s workforce and operations by deploying Digit in its facilities.
Agility Robotics has previously cited GXO, Schaeffler and Amazon among organisations that have used Digit.
