Comau has designed and delivered an advanced automation system for Li Auto, supporting the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer’s latest range extender production line.
The solution enables an annual production capacity of up to 400,000 units.
The system covers the supply chain — from concept design and system simulation to assembly and commissioning. It includes automation for the interior and exterior assembly lines, the cylinder head line, and the piston-connecting rod line.

In total, 45 automatic and semi-automatic machines and 15 collaborative robots have been integrated into the facility.
According to Comau, the automation solution has significantly improved production reliability, operational efficiency, and flexibility.
It has been specifically designed to accommodate future range extender models, ensuring scalability and adaptability within a rapidly changing industry.
To further improve process stability and minimise manual errors, Comau employed collaborative robots equipped with vision systems for tasks such as spark plug installation and connecting rod cap assembly.
A six-axis robotic system has also replaced traditional methods for crankshaft assembly, enhancing flexibility, precision, and set-up efficiency — key factors in managing product variability and accelerating production ramp-up.
The deployment underscores Comau’s commitment to delivering high-performance manufacturing solutions tailored to the demands of the EV sector.
