Amazon has unveiled a new suite of seven advanced robotics systems designed to optimise parcel handling at the final stage of delivery, as part of a wider rollout of automation across its logistics network.
The innovations were showcased at the e-commerce giant’s new Last Mile Innovation Center in Dortmund, Germany – a concept delivery station intended to demonstrate the future of Amazon’s final-mile infrastructure.
The facility features robots designed to reduce manual handling, streamline workflows and improve worker safety.
Among the new technologies is Tipper, a system that automates the unloading of delivery carts, minimising the need for employees to lift or handle packages directly.
This is followed by Echelon, which manages package flow on conveyor belts, and a six-sided scanner that automatically captures barcode and label information without manual scanning.
Other systems include Agility and Matrix, which orchestrate the most efficient routes for parcels within the facility, and ZancaSort, which presents parcels to employees at ergonomic heights to avoid reaching or walking long distances.
Lastly, the Vision Assisted Sort Station (VASS) uses computer vision and projection to guide operators in sorting items to the correct delivery routes.
COMMENT: Amazon’s new robot has a sense of touch, but it’s not here to replace humans
Nicola Fyfe, vice president of Amazon Logistics Europe, said: “We want to create more high-skilled work that is ergonomically sound for everyone at our facilities.
“Technology is helping us achieve this vision by creating better, safer work environments inside our delivery stations.”
Amazon has already deployed more than 750,000 robots across its global logistics network and plans to expand these latest technologies across Europe before introducing them to additional markets.
Achievements and innovations in retail and e-commerce, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, food and beverage, automotive, transport & logistics, and more will be celebrated at the Robotics & Automation Awards on 29 October 2025 at De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London.
