European online fashion retailer Zalando is planning to deploy Nomagic robots to support staff at its fulfilment centres in 2025/2026.
The robots – named Richard – will be used for item-level picking, scanning and induction to automated pocket sorters. Nine robots are expected to be live, with “a double-digit number” planned for deployment in 2026.
The roll-out follows a successful pilot that saw the robots achieve an average of 10,000 picks/day.
“At Zalando, we are continuously developing and testing the automation of work processes in logistics, both to make the work of employees easier and to provide customers with first-class service,” commented Marcus Daute, vice president, logistics network at Zalando.
“Nomagic’s technology has demonstrated clear, measurable value in our operations. Their AI-driven solutions allow us to scale automation quickly while maintaining the high service levels our customers expect.”
Through the partnership with Zalando, Nomagic will bring its technology to more fulfilment centres across Europe.
“Together, we’re proving that AI and robotics can drive real operational improvements at scale,” concluded Kacper Nowicki, CEO of Nomagic, which was established in 2017.
Zalando has also made a minority investment into Nomagic as part of its previously announced $44 million Series B round.
This latest tranche of funding will be used for technology investment and to scale deployments across Europe over the next two years, according to a February release.
