Vietnam-based technology and innovation corporation CT Group has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with an emerging South Korean drone technology company for the export of 5,000 unmanned cargo aircraft.
The agreement was signed during the Vietnam-Korea Economic Forum on 12 August 2025 in Seoul, South Korea. Also during this event, CT Group announced it had secured an order to export 100 million ATP semiconductor chips to a South Korean partner.
The signing, CT Group says, marks ‘a historic milestone in Vietnam’s technological journey’.
The company is developing UAV models integrated with artificial intelligence (AI), capable of self-learning and autonomous decision-making. This potential, it says, is elevated to a new level with the creation of a spatial environment designed to foster AI development.
The drones ordered are heavy-lift transport unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), ranging from 60kg to 300kg. They boast a localisation rate of 85%, applying proprietary technologies developed by Vietnamese engineers.
Amongst them is the CT-Security Sky Guard transport UAV, which can carry a payload of up to 200kg. This drone is specifically designed for cargo transport and delivery, aiming to optimise supply chains and open up new business opportunities.
It has a flight speed of 10-15 m/s and is fitted with obstacle avoidance sensors.
Meanwhile, CT UAV’s Vertical Take-off and Landing (VTOL) series combines the vertical take-off and landing advantages of helicopters with the speed of fixed-wing aircraft. With two versions, 2.7m and 4.4m, this product line provides high-speed cargo transport solutions.
The 4.4m VTOL fixed-wing model is designed for domestic transportation, logistics support for industrial zones and remote islands. It can also be used to support disaster relief efforts, reaching isolated areas and helping in emergencies like floods.
This UAV has a payload of 10kg, can fly at altitudes up to 300m, with speeds ranging from 110-145km/h. It has an operating range of over 13.8km, and can operate for up to 360 minutes of continuous flight time.
In a statement, a CT Group spokesperson said: “Years later, in retrospect, the world will look back on today’s historic event as a miraculous milestone in the development of Vietnamese technology during the Fourth Industrial Revolution – a remarkable chapter on the challenging journey to conquer the world and bring happiness to humanity.”
