Schindler Group’s robotic installation system for elevators (Schindler R.I.S.E) has been deployed in Singapore to accelerate vertical construction, marking a significant step forward in automated building technology.
One of Schindler’s five construction robots arrived in Singapore in April to assist with the redevelopment of the iconic Shaw Tower on Beach Road. The 200-metre mixed-use building is part of the ongoing revitalisation of Singapore’s Downtown Core, aiming to offer a sustainable and technology-enabled workplace.

Schindler R.I.S.E is, according to the company, the world’s first self-climbing robot designed specifically to install elevator components inside lift shafts. Equipped with precision tools to drill holes and install anchor bolts, the robot manoeuvres independently within elevator shafts, traditionally a demanding and time-consuming task carried out by construction workers.
By limiting human involvement to a specialist operator who remotely monitors the robot’s movements, the system not only speeds up the installation process but also reduces risks related to errors, rework, and workplace accidents.
Alfred Yeung, general manager of building owner Shaw Towers Realty, said: “With its [R.I.S.E’s] speed and accuracy, we achieved time savings and improved safety outcomes compared to conventional installation methods.
“This also aligns with our corporate philosophy to use technology for better and more efficient solutions – for the construction of the tower now and more importantly for building users of Shaw Tower in the future.”
