Cohesive Robotics Inc. has today announced the launch and immediate availability of its new Smart Welding Robotic Workcell, aimed at helping manufacturers tackle critical welding bottlenecks through advanced, AI-enabled automation.
The turnkey system is the latest addition to the company’s suite of autonomous robotic solutions and is designed to significantly enhance production capacity and improve welding accuracy, particularly in high-mix, high-variability manufacturing environments.
At the core of the system is Cohesive Robotics’ proprietary Argus OSTM software, which uses 3D scanning technology to automatically identify parts and generate robot programmes without manual input. This enables the system to handle a wide variety of common manufacturing tasks with minimal human oversight.
The Smart Welding Robotic Workcell integrates this software with leading-edge industrial and collaborative robots, as well as welding sources capable of performing MIG, TIG, laser, and other processes across a wide range of parts and materials. Notably, it requires no manual programming, a feature designed to streamline workflows and reduce training requirements.
Key features include automatic vision-based detection of weld joints and tack welds, compatibility with both ferrous and non-ferrous metals, a high-precision submillimetre 3D camera, and a user-friendly Human-Machine Interface (HMI) mobile station.
According to the company, the system can boost production capacity by up to 50% and achieve up to 90% consistency and accuracy in weld quality, thereby reducing the need for rework and post-weld finishing. It also enables manufacturers to reallocate skilled workers to more complex or strategic tasks by automating the more hazardous and repetitive aspects of welding operations.
The Smart Welding Robotic Workcell joins Cohesive Robotics’ existing Smart Finishing Robotic Workcell, which automates surface finishing tasks such as sanding, grinding, and graining.
Cohesive Robotics develops and delivers AI-driven automation solutions with the aim of transforming traditional manufacturing processes through intelligent, autonomous systems.
Achievements and innovations in retail and e-commerce, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, food and beverage, automotive, transport & logistics, and more will be celebrated at the Robotics & Automation Awards on 29 October 2025 at De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London.
