Tyre maker Bridgestone has confirmed it is investigating a cyberattack that has impacted the operation of some manufacturing facilities in North America.
The company said its “rapid response” contained the incident at an early stage and that it does not believe customer data or interfaces were compromised.
Local reports first surfaced on Tuesday 2 September about disruption at two Bridgestone Americas (BSA) plants in Aiken County, South Carolina, followed a day later by coverage of production issues at the company’s Joliette facility in Quebec.
In statements to media, BSA said business continuity and data protection remain the priority while forensic analysis continues.
BSA operates 50 production facilities and employs about 55,000 people, accounting for roughly 43% of Bridgestone Corporation’s global footprint.

In 2024 BSA reported US$12bn in sales and US$1.2bn in operating profit. The company said staff are working around the clock to mitigate supply chain impact and minimise the risk of product shortages.
Bridgestone did not specify the attack type and no ransomware group had claimed responsibility at the time of writing. The firm previously disclosed a LockBit ransomware incident in 2022.
Commenting on the incident, Dray Agha, senior manager of security operations at Huntress, said the case underlines a shift from data theft to operational disruption in manufacturing.
“The immediate business impact isn’t just data theft but halted production and broken supply chains,” he said, adding that full confidence depends on confirming eradication across IT and operational technology networks.
Bridgestone said it continues to meet customer obligations while addressing any further impacts.
