US retailer Target and robot manufacturer Clockwork have started rolling out robots at various stores that offer a 10-minute manicure for US$8 (£6.95).
Footage of the robot has circulated on social media and brought attention to the device.
Clockwork formed a deal with Target to incorporate its robots in six US locations, such as stores in Texas, California and Minnesota.
The manicure bot workings using artificial intelligence (AI) and 3D technology to understand the shape and size of a customer’s nails before painting them.
“We wanted to create an accessible and affordable option for women to get a quality service, without having to spend a bunch of time and money,” said Renuka Apte, co-founder and CEO of Clockwork.
“We are revolutionising express beauty! But not quite in a salon environment.”
The company also claims the service has added hygiene benefits, which are pertinent in the wake of the pandemic, as the treatment can be completed without human interaction.
